Oh Crap, it’s November!

The freak snow storm this past weekend was a huge bitch slap of reality for us here at gardenfreude. Sure, we knew the growing season was drawing to a close and yes, we did know there was a storm a-comin’, but frankly, we were in denial. I mean, c’mon, snow before Halloween?

We stared in disbelief as the flakes began to fall thickly and furiously and felt helpless as we watched from our window as the snow began to blanket our gardens. There was nothing to do but stay inside and watch Drag Me To Hell and Scream 4.

The next day we picked all the remaining peppers and harvested all of our tender herbs. The temperature never actually dipped below the freezing mark, so it looks like a lot of our plants will survive, but a few are touch-and-go right now.

What am I getting at here? Well, even though we still have a little more work to do in the garden this season, it’s time to set our sights on what lies ahead. We’re in between Halloween and Thanksgiving, but what better time is there to talk about food, and specifically vegan food? Most people find vegan food completely mystifying. This month we’ll be talking about what we eat- from the food we cook at home to what we eat out at restaurants. We’ll also explore some food items that we’ve been curious about, but just haven’t gotten around to trying yet. Join us and if you have any suggestions about what kinds of food or restaurants you’d like to see covered here, let us know.
